Computer aided clinical discrimination between non-cirrhotic portal fibrosis and cirrhosis.

چکیده
Thirty eight patients with Non-Cirrhotic Portal Fibrosis (NCPF) and 64 cirrhotics were included in the study. The diagnosis was established in all cases with liver biopsy and splenoportography. Age, sex, duration of symptoms, number ot bleeds, ascites, hepatornegaly, splenomegaly, encephalopathy and presence of abdominal veins were used clinically to distinguish betweeii the diseases. Age, number of bleeds, liver enlargement, encephalopathy and presence of abdominal veins were not significantly different between the two diseases. Computer aided discriminant analysis was used to determine the relative importance and weightage to be given in discrimination. NCPF and cirrhosis could be discriminated with 82% accuracy using splenic size and ascitic score. Use of all significant parameters resulted in only a marginal additional discrimination of 1% (JPMA: 30, 33 1983).

Relevance of plasma malondialdehyde level and severity of portal hypertension in cirrhotic patients.
BACKGROUND Portal hypertension is one of the death reasons for the liver cirrhosis patients. The oxidative stress is related to the occurrence and development of portal hypertension in cirrhosis. Malondialdehyde (MDA), one of the lipid peroxides, increases substantially in cirrhotic patients. AIMS To evaluate the relevance between the MDA level and portal hypertension in cirrhotic patients. ...
متن کاملVariceal pressure is a strong predictor of variceal haemorrhage in patients with cirrhosis as well as in patients with non-cirrhotic portal hypertension.
BACKGROUND Variceal pressure is a strong predictor for a first variceal bleed in patients with cirrhosis. AIMS To evaluate whether variceal pressure is also a determinant of the risk of a first variceal bleed in patients with non-cirrhotic portal hypertension. METHODS Variceal pressure was measured non-invasively in 25 patients with non-cirrhotic portal hypertension and large varices while ...

Portal hypertension (PHT) is a common and serious clinical syndrome often associated with chronic liver diseases. Portal hypertension may be defined as portal pressure gradients of 12 mmHg or more in the veins of the portal system caused by obstruction in the liver from intrahepatic or extrahepatic portal venous compression or occlusion (often associated with chronic liver disease), causing enl...
متن کاملJaundice in non-cirrhotic primary biliary cirrhosis: the premature ductopenic variant.
The clinical and pathological findings of four females with primary biliary cirrhosis (PBC) with an unusual and hitherto not well recognised course are reported. Patients suffered severe pruritus and weight loss with progressive icteric cholestasis which did not respond to such treatments as ursodeoxycholic acid and immunosuppressives. In all cases liver histology revealed marked bile duct loss...
متن کاملHepatic and splanchnic nitric oxide activity in patients with cirrhosis.
BACKGROUND In animal models of cirrhosis, altered activity of nitric oxide (NO) has been implicated in the pathogenesis of increased intrahepatic portal vascular resistance and abnormal mesenteric vasodilatation. AIMS To investigate NO activity in the liver and splanchnic vascular bed of patients with cirrhosis. METHODS Activity of the calcium dependent constitutive and calcium independent ...
